One of the few things we are allowed to do in NYC right now is walking, whether for essential errands, to walk the dog, or for exercise. I don’t go out often, but on some weekends I’ve chosen to get my exercise by long strolls around the city. And without quite being conscious of it, I’ve been documenting images of the city for weeks now. Things that strike me as I’m walking around. New York landmarks empty. So this week, I want to share these images with you so you can see the city as I’ve been seeing it.
Turns out that I have way more images than I thought, so this is going to be three posts – images of Central Park, photos of the streets, and some images from midtown landmarks like Times Square. We’re starting with Central Park today and the others will be posted tomorrow and Tuesday.
I want to be clear about taking these walks:
- No laws were broken in making these photos. In NYC we are allowed to walk for exercise. Some people who live in places where that isn’t the case have asked me about that. Since the mask order began, I have worn a cloth mask at all times outside.
- I go alone or with my fiancé who lives with me. We both are working from home and come into contact with very few people.
- I usually set out early in the morning as the parks and streets get more crowded later in the day.
- Everything shown is in walking distance from my home; no public or private transport was taken.
- I do my best to maintain social distancing at all times. This is why I go early – fewer people.

Fabulous photos!! It is eerie looking at photos of places that are usually crowded or have people in it no matter what time of the day. It is great exploring these places while they are empty, gives a different and new perspective on the place.

Thank you so much! It was definitely a different experience in a city that is typically so crowded.
